Political determinants and development of Israel's military strategy
Teissigová, Andrea ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Bahenský, Vojtěch (referee)
Tato bakalářská práce sleduje vliv politické scény Izraele na vývoj izraelské strategie v průběhu historie a konfliktů, kterými si stát Izrael doposud prošel. Nejprve se práce zabývá strategií obecně, definicí války, strategií Izraele a charakteristikou politiky v Izraeli. Dále vznikem Izraele, konflikty a rozebírá vlády Izraele v průběhu konfliktů.
The "unwilling or unable" doctrine and the right of self-defence against non-state actors
Syvulja, Nela ; Bílková, Veronika (advisor) ; Honusková, Věra (referee)
The "unwilling or unable" doctrine and the right of self-defence against non- state actors ABSTRACT For several decades, the fight against international terrorism has been a major challenge for the entire international community. States try to fight these non-state actors in various ways. One of them is trying to neutralize a non-state actor in the territory of the state in which this actor has settled and from which he is preparing and coordinating his attacks. States often invoke the right to self-defense in the case of such actions, stating that the state in whose territory the non-state entity is located is unable or unwilling to deal with it on its own. This paper is devoted to the right to self-defense against non-state actors and the emerging doctrine of "unwilling or unable". The paper is divided into an introduction, four main chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter is devoted generally to the prohibition of the use of force and the threat of force. The second chapter deals with the right to self-defense. First, attention is paid to the right to self-defense in general, where an armed attack is discussed in more detail. Subsequently, a restrictive and extensive approach to the right to self-defense is presented. Attention is then paid more to the preemptive and preventive self-defense and the...

New Middle Ages - Geopolitics of Post-Westphalian World
Doboš, Bohumil ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (referee) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
The thesis applies the neomedieval theoretical framework on the contemporary political map of the world. The thesis argues, that the contemporary international politics cannot be understood by an application of the unified geopolitical setting and that the key divergencies in the geopolitical environment play a crucial role for the actors operating in different regions. As an outcome of the theoretical works dealing with the selected theory, a three-world model is being presented dividing the political map among these settings - Durable Disorder (defined by networking and privatization), Westphalian System (defined by a dominant position of strong centralized state), and Chaotic Anarchy (lacking stable political power and control over means of violence). This model is consequently applied on the global political map with the consequent analysis of the strategies of different actors located inside specific environments and mutual interactions of these three worlds.
International Terrorism and Challenges for International Law
Kobulská, Natália ; Bílková, Veronika (advisor) ; Ondřej, Jan (referee)
English abstract International Terrorism and Challenges for International Law Rigorosum thesis is focused on the understanding of essential problems of interna- tional terrorism in context of international law. Main challenges include the adoption of universal definition of terrorism, the settlement of the legal status of terrorists and their rights and obligations mainly in relation to human rights. It is important to clarify the responsibility of the State for terrorism (State terrorism and attribution of his actions), in relation to the population, captured terrorists, and non-state actors. The latter pose several problems in reaction to terrorist crimes, such as the legality of the use of force against them including the right of self-defence or the use of drones for targeted killing. It is contentious whether it is possible to place terrorism under existing categories of in- ternational law or it constitutes a separate act which is necessary to regulate apart from valid international rules. Keywords: terrorism, human rights, targeted killing, right to self-defence, use of force, State responsibility, non-state actor, 9/11 terrorist attacks

State versus Violent Non-State Actors
Eisnerová, Tereza ; Rolenc, Jan Martin (advisor) ; Kochan, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis is focusing on the problem of violent non-state actors and their relationship with a state. Firstly, a non-state actor is seen with the optics of the theories of international relations. Non state actors are classified in line with existing theoretical research about their behavior. Secondly, they are viewed from the perspective of international law. Furthermore, the thesis deals with a state and the options the state has for a combat against those violent non-state actors. Afterwards, four case studies are presented. They illustrate the behavior of state and non-state actors, each example represents one of the categories determined in the theoretical part of the thesis. The aim of the case studies is to categorize the instruments which might be used by the state against non-state actors and to systematize the violent non-state actor's classification as the theoretical research on this field is still being overlooked and is lacking coherence.
